Both District 16-4A girls volleyball teams from the Florida Keys ended their seasons Monday at the district tournament.
Coral Shores High’s Hurricanes (5-14) lost to Ransom Everglades in the district quarterfinals, played at Westminster Christian. District contender Ransom advanced with a 25-12, 25-9, 25-17 decision.
Key West High was stopped by Carrollton in a 25-11, 25-15, 25-13 quarterfinal at Westminster.
Other Coral Shores sports teams head into district postseason competition this week.
The Hurricane boys and girls cross-country teams, coached by Gabe Suarez, travel to Miami on Thursday for the District 16-2A Meet. Coral Shores competes against 11 other cross-country programs for the 5-kilometer run through Larry and Penny Thompson Park. Boys and girls events run separately.
Founders Park’s aquatic center in Islamorada hosts the District 12-A springboard-diving championships on Monday at 4 p.m. Coral Shores swimmers then travel to Ransom Everglades for the District 12 Meet, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
As the fall prep-sports seasons enter the postseason, winter programs are gearing up for the 2016-17 seasons.
Coral Shores’ girls soccer team, coached by Pat Fazio and Erin Fry, begins the new campaign in a 4 p.m. Oct. 26 home match against Palmer Trinity. Other winter schedules were pending.
