Nearly a fourth of Monroe County's registered voters already have cast their ballots in the Nov. 4 general election.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, 3,715 people had voted at one of the five early-voting sites in Monroe County.
Sometimes there have been short lines at the early-voting sites but it's off and on, elections officials say. But they say it hasn't been backed up at all."
Another 8,200 voters have returned mail-in, or absentee, ballots, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.
The Key West elections office has been the busiest early-voting site, with 1,361 cast in the first four days.
The site at the Key Largo library drew 780 voters from Monday through Thursday, followed by the Marathon elections office (611), the Big Pine Key library (593) and the Plantation Key elections office (370). Sites were still open at press time Friday.
Early-voting sites are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday through Nov. l.
Registered Monroe County voters can fill out ballots at any of the five sites -- not just the closest one -- during the early-voting period.
In the regular election Nov. 4, voters will be required to vote at their local precinct.Mail-in ballots were requested by 13,880 Monroe County residents. A mail-in ballot can be requested until Wednesday.
When the Monroe County registration books were closed and certified for the Nov. 4 vote, there were 50,149 on the local rolls.
