This Florida Keys spot is the hottest destination for travelers, Tripadvisor says

Key Largo is having a moment.

As part of its yearly Travelers’ Choice Awards for Destinations, Tripadvisor has announced its 25 Trending Destinations in the U.S. list - and the northernmost Key is no. 1.

The travel and dining website bases its conclusions on places that recorded the biggest increase in positive reviews, booking interest and searches over the past year.

Here’s what Tripadvisor had to say about Key Largo, which is clearly more than just a stop along the way to Key West:

“Just a few minutes’ drive but a world away from the mainland, Key Largo has been the setting of movies, the home to abundant wildlife and a favorite destination for scuba diving. Lush flora and lively fauna abound in the Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Everglades National Park. Underwater, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary teems with life while the American Crocodile thrives at Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge.”

What’s driving the interest? Tripadvisor reports that scenic destinations - like Moab, Utah; Fairbanks, Alaska and Colorado Springs - are all drawing interest from travelers.

The only other Florida destination on the top 25 list is Anna Maria Island at no. 3.

The top 25 trending destination in the world? Cochin, India.

Tripadvisor also created a list of the top 25 emerging destinations in the world. Only one U.S. city - Tulsa, Oklahoma - made that list.
