Angelic Moon Holistic Day Spa on Cudjoe Key is the 10th business in the Keys to be certified by nonprofit Green Living & Energy Education's Green Business Program.
Owner Donna Spencer says her mission is to provide an Earth-friendly environment for holistic personal care.
The day spa at mile marker 23 oceanside recycles, uses biodegradable products and containers and conserves energy and water.
So far the only green-certified spa in the Keys, Angelic Moon’s menu include sunburn facials, aromatherapy massages and a host of other services designed to relax, rejuvenate and restore.
Spencer uses natural cleaning products to keep the spa fresh and chemical free.
She installed a low-flow toilet and showerhead, and she plans to install a rain barrel so she can capture rainfall and use it to water her native plants.
Inside, Spencer uses natural light and energy-saving fluorescent lighting. Outside, she uses solar-powered lights.
Spencer maintains clean air-conditioning filters for efficiency and air quality.
The spa’s electric bills are $25 or less during the winter months, and Spencer plans to get a Keys Energy audit this summer to look for other ways to save while energy use is at its peak.
Spencer’s spa uses products made of organic, fair trade ingredients and packaged in recycled or recyclable packaging.
The décor is an eclectic blend of recycled, repurposed and reused furniture. Towels and linens are made from bamboo and organic cotton.
Angelic Moon is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and by appointment Monday. It’s at 22982 Overseas Highway. For more information, visit AngelicMoon7.com or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
GLEE’s Green Business Program provides downloadable tools, including a waste assessment and utility tracker, that guide participants in how to reduce waste, conserve resources and demonstrate best environmental practices.
The tools are free. To become certified, there is a $50 on-site assessment fee for GLEE business members, and a $150 fee for non-members, which includes a one-year membership.
Participants are added to GLEE’s Web site and receive material they can post touting their certification.
