Vicky Bakery is now open in the Florida Keys.

The first Keys location for the Miami-based brand, which was founded 1972 in Hialeah, is in Key Largo, just past the famous Shell World gift shop.

Managing partner Amy Cao called the opening a cause for celebration.

“Our dream has always been to share the flavors of our culture with as many communities as possible,” she said. “To now be serving the people of Key Largo and welcoming visitors from around the world is a milestone we’re so proud of.”

The Key Largo bakery is the 30th for the brand, which is well known in South Florida for its pastelitos, empanadas and croquetas as well as sandwiches, bread and cakes. And of course, cafecitos.

Miami has flocked to the bakeries for more than 50 years, hungry for the pastries born from a Cuban family recipe from founders Antonio and Gelasia Cao, who met while working at the well-known Cuban bakery La Vencedora in Havana.

And there’s another surprise ahead: in the coming month or so, this Vicky Bakery will debut the brand’s first full-service bar, so that pastelito lovers can pair a piña colada with their pastries.

The brand plans to continue its expansion throughout Florida and in other states.
