Islamorada man dies Sunday from injuries sustained in Saturday crash

An Islamorada man died early Sunday after crashing his car while trying to pass other cars in the center lane of U.S. 1 in the Upper Keys the day before, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

Troopers say Jeffrey Glover, 46, was driving a 1995 BMW 318i north at mile marker 83 around 2:30 p.m. Saturday while Gary Alvarez, 51, of Orlando was driving south in a 2012 Toyota Prius with two passengers, including a 9-year-old. Glover lost control in the center lane and drifted into the southbound lane, sideswiping Alvarez's car. Glover's BMW came to rest in the southbound lane facing north while the Prius ended up in the right shoulder facing south.

Glover was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, then airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Kendall, where he died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, troopers said.
