Bicyclist dies in Monday crash in Lower Keys

A bicycle rider died in a Stock Island crash Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

The FHP says that at 6:15 p.m., Andy Morffi-Gonzalez, 19, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette south on Cross Street. U.S. 1 traffic had a green traffic signal. As he approached the intersection of Cross Street, 57-year-old Raymond Cochran from Key West was riding from east to west (toward the golf course) and rode into the path of the Corvette. The car collided with the bicyclist front to right side at U.S. 1.  The bicyclist was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center, where he died.

There are no indications of alcohol involvement from the driver, troopers said. Toxicology results are pending autopsy results on the bicyclist.
