Key Largo motorcyclist dies from injuries sustained in March 31 crash

A Key Largo man who crashed his motorcycle in the Upper Keys March 31 died Tuesday, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

Aaron Leslie Miles, 38, died at Ryder Trauma Center in Miami at 1:23 p.m., Lt. Kathy McKinney said. He was the seventh traffic fatality in the Keys this year (one of those was in Key West).

Troopers said Miles was operating a BMW K-1100 about 8:40 p.m. March 31 at mile marker 76 when he ran off the northbound lane of U.S. 1, crashing through trees before striking a utility pole. He was not wearing a helmet.

Meanwhile, troopers on Tuesday identified a pickup truck driver who died in the Lower Keys this past Sunday as Israel Oliveras, 63, of Hollywood. Troopers said he was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger north on U.S. 1 at mile marker 24 about 11:10 a.m. when, in congested traffic, he drove onto the unpaved shoulder, over-corrected trying to get back on the road and then "began to roll over onto the southbound lane of U.S. 1 in the same direction of travel," the Florida Highway Patrol said.

He ended up getting tossed from the truck and his truck hit a tree, where it came to rest about 23 feet off U.S. 1. He was flown to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where he died at 1:12 p.m.
