Serious crash blocks traffic on U.S. 1 in Florida Keys
A Florida Keys man managed to avoid injuries after his pickup truck struck the back of a semi Friday morning, partially lodging the front end of his vehicle underneath the truck’s trailer.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office originally reported the crash resulted in injuries, but a Florida Highway Patrol press release issued later in the day stated neither the pickup driver nor the driver of the tractor trailer were hurt.
At 8:42 a.m., Akeem Garvey, 24, was driving his Ford F150 south in the left lane of U.S. 1 around mile marker 49 in Marathon behind the semi, which was in the right lane of the highway, according to the FHP report.
Akeem, from Marathon, switched lanes, but did not see the semi had slowed down, and crashed into the trailer.
Garvey faces a citation for careless driving, according to the press release.
Traffic on U.S. 1 was blocked for an hour while deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers cleared the scene.
