Florida Keys city is about to ease a coronavirus restriction at marina boat ramp
In a slight easing of the restrictions put in place to combat the novel coronavirus last month, the Village of Islamorada in the Florida Keys on Monday will reopen the boat ramp at its municipal marina.
The ramp, lat Founders Park/Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina at mile marker 87, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, according to a statement issued Friday from the village.
To use the boat ramp, residents must either show marina staff a driver’s license containing an address from within incorporated Islamorada, or a Founders Park membership card, said Mary Swaney, village public information officer.
“Only those two forms of identification will be accepted. Any homeowner that does not have one of the two necessary forms of identification must wait to use the boat ramp until it reopens to the general public,” Swaney stated.
The Village of Islamorada is an incorporated area of Monroe County in the Upper Keys made up of the islands of Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key and Lower Matecumbe Key.
The marina will not be selling any fuel, ice or any other supplies, Swaney said.
At the park, the dog park, tennis court, pickle ball court and basketball court remain closed “for at least the next two weeks,” the announcement states.
People are allowed to use the fields and walking paths and do not have to cover their faces, according to the announcement, although people must practice social distancing in these areas.
Islamorada’s beaches remain closed, as are other boat ramps in the village and the rest of Monroe County.
In other parts of Florida, easing of restrictions also have begun.
Jacksonville was expected to open its parks and beaches as of Friday evening, with restrictions. And Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez is considering opening in phases public spaces such as beaches and golf courses.
