Keys police searching for two gunmen in fatal shooting. The killing was a ‘targeted hit,’ cops say

Florida Keys Police on Wednesday were searching for two brothers they said opened fire on two men Monday on Stock Island.

The gunmen left one dead and the other in critical condition in an area among the lobster and stone crab trap yards known as La Curva, police said.

The shootings were “targeted hits,” and not a random crime, detectives said on Wednesday.

The suspects, Mayque Marin Gomez, 31, and Jose Luis Espinosa Gomez, 34, who both live in an apartment complex on Shrimp Road on Stock Island, should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the Monroe Sheriff’s Office.

“If you see either man do not attempt to detain them,” said sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt. “Call 911 immediately.”

The investigation began Monday when the Sheriff’s Office responded to 5515 Fifth Avenue at 4:50 p.m.

Found dead in what police described as a “shack-like” structure at 5515 Fifth Ave. was 45-year-old Jose Manuel Clemente, of Stock Island.

The surviving victim is Iliecer Noa, 43, also of Stock Island.

Noa was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center and then airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami-Dade County. He remained in critical condition Tuesday, Linhardt said.

No weapons were found at the crime scene.

Before the shooting, witnesses told police that an argument over a Mercedes-Benz vehicle took place.

Both brothers were armed with handguns and during the argument they pulled their weapons and shot the two men.

Police searched the brothers’ apartment at Meridian West apartments on Tuesday night, finding two handguns that they can’t yet say were used in the shooting.
