In the Florida Keys, two more people have died after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, a top health official said Wednesday night, increasing the death toll to eight.

The two residents had serious underlying conditions, said Bob Eadie, administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County.

On Wednesday, the Keys had 1,198 known cases and six deaths reported. Eadie said the medical examiner was still investigating the two additional deaths and had not announced the cause of death for either.

The Keys last reported a death related to COVID-19 on July 2. The first was reported on April 2.
