A bicyclist was killed Saturday after being hit by a car in Key West, police say.

The crash happened on North Roosevelt Boulevard, said Key West Police Department spokeswoman Alyson Crean, who confirmed the person killed was a cyclist.

The death investigation took hours, causing traffic to back up along U.S. 1 for up to five miles outside the city.

Details of the crash were not immediately available, and the cyclist had not been identified as of Saturday afternoon.
