A Miami woman was arrested Saturday night after she spit on a Key West police officer called to intervene in a dispute with a golf cart rental company, according to her arrest report.

Then, after officers took her to Monroe County jail, a sheriff’s office detention deputy found a small bag of cocaine in her wallet, the report states.

Andrea Canaves, 31, was released from jail Monday after paying the required 10 percent of her total bond of $75,000 on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, felony drug possession, smuggling contraband into a detention facility and resisting an officer without violence., court records show.

Her friend, Cristal Tejera, 34, of Pembroke Pines, was arrested on a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge and released Monday on a $5,000 bond, according to court records. Neither woman could be reached for comment, and information on their legal representation was not immediately available.

According to the arrest report, the officer arrived at the First Flight Island Restaurant and Brewery at 301 Whitehead Street at 9:30 p.m. to address “a civil matter.” He met Canaves and Tejera, and Canaves “appeared intoxicated,” the report states.

Canaves told the officer that she and Tejera were unable to obtain a key for a golf cart they rented. They called the rental company, and a representative told them there was nothing they could do that night, but they could get another cart in the morning, according to the report.

Canaves told the officer she was not satisfied with that answer and yelled at the clerk, who hung up on her, the officer said in his report. The women wanted the officer to write a report on the company. He responded that he couldn’t because it was a civil, not a criminal issue, he stated in his report.

This angered the women, who became “belligerent” with the officer, yelling and cursing at him and following him when he walked into the restaurant. He told them several times to walk away, and then Canaves spit on his shoe, he wrote in the report.

The officer then handcuffed Canaves, and Tejera tried physically stopping him from taking her friend away to his patrol car, according to the report. After he told Tejera to walk away, Canaves spit in his face, the report states. The officer took her to the ground and then tried cuffing Tejeras, who tensed up so much, the officer’s body camera was knocked to the ground, according to the report.

Other officers arrived and separated the women. Officers asked her several times if she had anything on her, and she said no, according to the report, adding that the deputy found the cocaine during processing.
