A Christmas afternoon water main break dropped water pressure to “low” or even “no” from Islamorada down to Key West, according to the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority and residents posting to social media.

At 8:13 p.m., the FKAA announced a precautionary boil water notice, in effect until noon Sunday, for all homes and businesses in these areas:

  • Tavernier Creek Mile Marker 92 to Whale Harbor Channel MM83
  • Tea Table Key MM 79 to Vaca Cut Bridge MM53
  • Knights Key MM47 to Beach Drive, Big Pine Key MM32
  • Little Torch Key
  • Ramrod Key
  • Cudjoe Key
  • Upper Sugarloaf Key
  • Lower Sugarloaf Key
  • Baypoint
  • Bluewater
  • Shark Key
  • Rockland Key
  • Boca Chica Key

The FKAA advises checking the agency’s Facebook page for updates as well as the alerts on the agency website.

arlier, the agency said, “FKAA crews will be working all night long in an attempt to have water fully restored by the morning.”

The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority said the problem was a transmission main break in Islamorada.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Lindhardt said in an email, “Traffic on U.S. 1 was not significantly impacted as the break was on the Old Highway.”
