An Atlanta, Ga. man died while snorkeling offshore of Key Largo Sunday.
The 39-year-old man was on a snorkeling trip on board the vessel Sundowner III at White Banks Reef. Just after 1 p.m., he was in the water when he yelled for help, said Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin. Sundowner III crewmembers jumped into the water and pulled him on board the vessel. He was unresponsive and not breathing, so they began performing CPR, Herrin said.
The crew brought him back to shore and then transported him to Mariners Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Detectives are withholding his name from release until they can notify his next of kin.
