Ocean Reef teens seriously injured in golf cart accident

Two teenage girls were seriously injured and taken to a mainland hospital by helicopter ambulance Thursday after the golf cart in which they were riding with three of their friends flipped over on a street in the Ocean Reef community.

One of the other girls was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The other two were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Deputy Becky Herrin, spokeswoman for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, said initial reports indicate all of the girls are 13. The incident happened on Sunrise Cay Drive.
