Stock Island man held in Key West sexual assault

Key West police say they've arrested a man in the sexual battering of a 17-year-old girl as she walked home from school on Dec. 10.

Adan Zamir Morales, 25, was arrested Friday afternoon at a Key West construction site where he was working. He's being held on a charge of sexual assault.

Police said the girl was walking along South Roosevelt Boulevard near Key West International Airport when Morales pulled over in a vehicle, said he was a friend of the girl's mother and offered her a ride home.

The girl got in the auto and that's when, police say, Morales drove down a side street and assaulted her.

"It's likely he knew the mother's name because he was working construction near the family's home," police spokeswoman Alyson Crean said.

Morales, who lives on Shrimp Road on Stock Island, is far from a stranger from police in Monroe County.

His Keys rap sheet includes charges of burglary, aggravated battery, probation violation, resisting arrest, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
