Deputy finds sleeping trespasser on boat with gift bag on his head

A 30-year-old Marathon man who's accused of trespassing on a boat over the weekend and then going to sleep on it -- even after being confronted by the owner -- remained jailed Tuesday on $10,000 bond.

When confronted by police, a sleeping Brandon Funkhouser was on the boat's couch with a gift bag on his head, says the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office says the boat owner, 93, was asleep on his liveaboard sailboat at the Marathon City Marina on Boot Key Harbor around 4 a.m. Sunday. He told Deputy Kendall Baily he woke up after hearing someone enter his boat and confronted the person (Funkhouser) and told him to leave.

Instead, Baily wrote in a report, Funkhouser sat down, went through his belongings and went to sleep. The boat owner got off the vessel and asked a neighbor to call the police. When deputies arrived, Funkhouser was asleep on the couch with the gift bag on his head.
