DUI hit-and-run suspect nabbed after tires blow out

A Marathon man with a long history of run-ins with the law struck a Jeep, a mailbox and flower bed while driving drunk Friday, says the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

David Threlkeld, 33, is charged with driving under influence, leaving the scene of a crash and refusing to sign a citation after causing the damage around 11:15 p.m. on 64th Street.

Yancy Benitez told Deputy Benjamin Elmore that Threlkeld's Ford F-150 pickup struck his 2014 Jeep Compass, causing about $1,250 in damage, according to a police report. Manuel Comas told deputies he saw Threlkeld run over the flower bed and mailbox.

Deputy Garrett Bragg saw Threlkeld doing a U-turn on U.S. 1 with both passenger-side tires of the truck blown out. He pulled him and Threlkeld try to run away but was quickly caught.

Threlkeld's past Monroe County rap sheet includes two other DUIs and leaving the scene of a crash.
