Suspect in grabbing of young girl still being sought

Police continue looking for a man they say grabbed a 12-year-year old girl Aug. 5 at a Marathon restaurant.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says David Garcia, 38, will be arrested when he's located. He reportedly was identified by restaurant staff because he previously worked there.

Deputies say that at the Sunset Grille and Raw Bar on Knights Key, there girl and her mother were eating when the youth got up to use the bathroom. That's when, police say, Garcia "grabbed her, wrapping his arms around her. She broke away but when she exited the restroom, he again attempted to grab her, saying something in Spanish she didn't understand."

When she got back to the table, she told her mother what happened, deputy Becky Herrin said. The mom "asked her to once again walk by the man so she could witness what happened. As the mother watched, her daughter walked by him again and he again tried to grab her."

Garcia left when confronted by the mother. The manager working that night says Garcia is a former employee. Video from the restaurant shows all three confrontations between Garcia and the little girl, Herrin said.

Anyone who knows where he is should contact the Sheriff's Office at (305) 289-2351.

Detective Lissette Zuelch arrested Roberto Carlos Aquino Arevalo after a young girl told her school counselor she'd been sexually molested by him, Herrin said. Subsequent investigations into the allegation led to a charge of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child between the ages of 12 and 16. The victim is 13.
