Gunfire at Islamorada bar lands Fort Lauderdale man in jail

A Fort Lauderdale man was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly fired a gun in the Hog Heaven Sports Bar and Grill at mile marker 85.4 in Islamorada.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, numerous witnesses inside Hog Heaven saw 31-year-old Christopher Fernandez get into a fistfight with another man around 11 p.m. While fighting, Fernandez reportedly pulled out a handgun and fired it once into the air. The man he was fighting with fled.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said security employees inside the bar took the gun away from Fernandez and held him until deputies Nestor Argote and Josh Brady arrived.

Fernandez was arrested, charged with shooting a deadly missile in a public building, improper exhibition of a firearm, discharging a firearm in public, use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

Fernandez was released from the Plantation Key jail Sunday on a $91,828 bond.
