Inmate upset with cell mate's snoring, tries to quiet him with a mesh bag over his head

Snoring? That'll get you a strangling. That's what the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says happened Saturday.

A jail inmate reportedly attacked his cell mate for snoring too loudly. The offended inmate, David Murillo, 30, was charged with aggravated battery.

His cell mate, David Reedy, 61, was treated at the Stock Island jail's medical unit.

Deputy Becky Herrin says that around 3 p.m., a guard told Deputy Seth Hopp he heard cries for help coming from one of the cells. When Hopp went to the cell, he reportedly saw Murillo "sitting on top" of Reedy, who "had a mesh laundry bag wrapped around Reedy's neck and was strangling him."

Hopp was able to get the bag off Reedy and called for medical help. Reedy reportedly told Hopp he "woke to find the bag around his neck. He said he struggled with Murillo for several minutes before being able to call out for help."

Murillo has been in jail since May, when he was arrested for burglary of an occupied dwelling and criminal mischief, accused of breaking into a Marathon home. Reedy was arrested in January, charged with violating sex-offender registration requirements.
