Boat stolen in Miami recovered in Marathon. Suspect arrested

A vessel stolen from a Miami-Dade County marina was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard off Marathon Tuesday, April 12. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers arrested a Miami man in connection with the theft.

A 33-foot open fisherman boat stolen from south Miami-Dade County was stopped by the U.S. Coast Guard off Grassy Key late Tuesday.

The Down Time, a 2012 Invincible Marine boat with a pair of 300-horsepower engines, reportedly was valued at $250,000, according to the FWC.

Ociel Aldolfo Del Rio, 38, of Miami was taken into the custody by the FWC on a felony grand theft charge.

The boat owner told FWC officers the boat was stolen from the Matheson Hammock Marina, on Biscayne near the Pinecrest area, around 7 p.m.

The owner was able to electronically track the boat's position and reported that it was heading around near Plantation Key around 10 p.m.

A patrol boat from Coast Guard Station Marathon stopped the Down Time around 11:30 p.m. off Grassy Key.

Del Rio remained in Monroe County jail in Marathon at press time Thursday under a $5,000 bond.
