A Key Largo man allegedly fired his gun while arguing with his wife early Tuesday morning, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Derrick Pinto, 52, allegedly pointed a .22-caliber rifle at his wife’s head, saying he "would solve this," said Deputy Becky Herrin, communications officer for the Sheriff’s Office. He then fired the weapon into the couple’s bedroom wall.
Pinto’s wife said her husband had been drinking all day and took some pills he bought earlier. Pinto said the argument was over the drugs, Herrin said.
Deputies responded to the domestic dispute on Bowen Drive and saw Pinto driving away in his red Ford Mustang. They pulled him over and noticed he was impaired. After conducting a field sobriety test, the deputies arrested him on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge.
He was also booked on a felony aggravated battery charge.
